Book Review: MOMumental

Sometimes I obsess over wonder how to be a good mother. You know, the mom who makes raising a child look so easy with the homemade snack mix and the group Bible study every evening. The mom who has Christian parenthood down to an art form...

Then I start thinking about how happy my kids are and I remember the compliments I receive about how thoughtful my boys are. That's when I realize, once again, that being a mom- being a great mom- is not one who follows all the "how to be a great mom" rules, but one who takes care of her children's needs and loves them the way that they need to be loved.

The newest book from Worthy Publishing, "MOMumental" by Jennifer Grant, is one that all mom's need to read. I could not put this book down. When I wasn't laughing at the commonalities between her life and mine, I was learning some practical tips on how to be a mom- a real mom. She is a normal mom with normal mom problems and reading this book just made me feel better about some of my choices and helped me to loosen up on myself.

It is not often that I really enjoy a "memoir" type book but this one was different. Instead of relaying random stories about her life, Jennifer Grant takes the reader into her home and offers ideas that we moms can use in our homes and, at the same time, shows that she is as far from perfect as the rest of us!

As a Catholic mom, I must also mention that this book is totally "Catholic-friendly". There is actually a chapter dedicated to religion where the author discusses her interactions with a Catholic friend of hers. She tells of the Catholic faith in a respectful way and I encourage Catholic moms to pick up a copy of this book.

So, to all moms out there wondering how to be good parents, buy a copy of "MOMumental". My favorite quote from the book comes from the author's son. He says that "in parenting, what matters most is what we do most of the time"... can't get any truer than that!
